Gustavo Guajardo
Hi, my name is Gustavo Guajardo and I am a 4th year graduate student in the Department of Political Science at Rice University. My fieId of study is Comparative Politics, with a special focus on electoral institutions, legislative behavior, and anti-corruption policies. I have regional focus on Mexico and Latin America.
My research agenda is broadly centered on understanding how electoral institutions impact the behavior of politicians. More specifically, I explore whether electoral institutions and anti-corruption efforts reduce corrupt behavior by politicians, whether and when politicians are more likely to support anti-corruption efforts, and I devise new methodologies for detecting malfeasance. In my research, I use a combination of observational data, causal inference models, natural experiments, and machine learning.
Before coming to Rice, I completed my B.A. in Political Science at Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM).
