Gustavo Guajardo
Hi, my name is Gustavo Guajardo and I am a 5th year graduate student in the Department of Political Science at Rice University. My fieId of study is Comparative Politics, with a special focus on electoral institutions, legislative behavior, and anticorruption policies. I have regional focus on Mexico and Latin America.
My research agenda is broadly centered on exploring when politicians are more likely to support anticorruption legislation, whether electoral institutions and anticorruption efforts reduce corrupt behavior by politicians, creating a cross-country typology for classifying types of anticorruption legislation, and devising new methodologies for detecting malfeasance. In my research, I use a combination of observational data, causal inference models, natural experiments, and machine learning.
Before coming to Rice, I completed my B.A. in Political Science at Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM).
